At Forest Hills Orthodontic Associates, Dr. Mizrahi and the rest of our team strive to help clients strengthen the look of your smile through orthodontic treatment. Braces are a common treatment option to help straighten your teen’s teeth.
The teenage years are the most important for children’s dental development. Around this time, kids grow out of their baby teeth and start making room for wisdom teeth. Unfortunately, all these changes can push adult teeth out of place and can cause significant structural damage.
If your teen is experiencing problems with their teeth, it may be worthwhile to consider braces as a solution to perfect their smile. Our office in Forest Hills, NY is happy to work with your child and get them the smile they deserve. We love serving long-time friends and families here in our office in Forest Hills, NY.
Our Treatment Plan
Before your child gets their braces, they will need to come in for an examination and consultation with Dr. Mizrahi. During that process, he will carefully examine their teeth to determine whether or not braces, or Invisalign, will be necessary.
If Dr. Mizrahi believes your teen is a candidate for braces, he will explain the different treatment options available at Forest Hills Orthodontic Associates. That way, you and your child can carefully consider all choices and find the solution that works best.
After the consultation and decision on one of our types of braces for teens, you will need to request an appointment for your child’s orthodontic treatment. Our clinic offers same-day treatment for teen braces, but you can also request an appointment for a later date.
Types of Braces
Our clinic offers several types of braces for teens in Forest Hills, NY. All of our orthodontic treatments will effectively straighten your child’s teeth, but there are subtle differences between them that might change which product you want.
Metal Braces
Traditional metal braces are still the standard dental aligners worn by teenagers everywhere.
Dr. Mizrahi will set up a metal bracket on each of your child’s teeth and connect the brackets with a metal wire. Then, he will tighten the wire over subsequent appointments to pull out-of-position teeth into place.
Ceramic Braces
Ceramic braces work similarly to metal braces, with a bracket placed on each tooth and the brackets connected by a wire. Dr. Mizrahi will tighten the wire during every appointment until your teen’s teeth have reached the desired results.
The only significant difference between ceramic braces and metal braces is the material. Generally, ceramic braces are tooth-colored so they have a more subtle appearance as well.
Damon Braces
Damon Braces are a great option for teens who want a less involved orthodontic experience. Removing the need for elastics, Damon braces are self-ligating, which means they adjust into place automatically, without the need for orthodontic appointments every few weeks.
Frequently Asked Questions About Teen Braces
What Can I Expect During My Teen’s Orthodontic Treatment?
When it’s time to start treatment, you can expect a quick procedure that lasts no more than an hour. Dr. Mizrahi will use that time thoroughly cleaning your teen’s teeth and quickly putting in their braces.
Your child might feel some slight pain after the procedure, but it should not last for more than a few days.
How Long Will My Child Need to Wear Their Braces?
Most teens wear braces from 18 to 24 months, but their individual timelines will vary based on the severity of teeth displacement.
How Can My Teen Keep Their Braces Intact?
Braces for teens are simple to keep clean, so long as the teens avoid these foods:
- Raw vegetables
- Hard candy
- Any sticky foods or substances
- Ice
Without those foods, all teens need to do is brush their teeth after every meal to keep their braces clean.
