What is Invisalign?
Invisalign relies on clear aligners to straighten your teeth, rather than metal braces. The aligners are made from a pliable plastic that features a material called SmartTrack®, which provides a gentle, more constant force than other aligners, improving control of the movement of your teeth.
The aligners are custom-made to fit snugly over your teeth, and you swap out your aligners every week or two to keep your teeth moving in the right direction. You can remove the aligners for eating and brushing, allowing you to maintain your teeth while you straighten them.
What Can Invisalign Correct?
Invisalign corrects most of the same issues that traditional braces do, including:
- Open bite
- Crowded teeth
- Gap teeth
- Overbite
- Underbite
- Crossbite
From minor corrections to full overhauls, Invisalign straightens out most problems, giving you a smile you can be proud of.
Who is a Candidate for Invisalign?
Invisalign is a perfect option for anyone who needs braces, including teenagers and adults. If you missed the braces boat as a child and you’d like to remedy the problem later in life, Invisalign works quickly and discreetly to straighten out your teeth.
For preteens or teenagers, Invisalign is a great alternative to cumbersome metal braces that make already-awkward teens more self-conscious. With Invisalign, your child is able to remove their aligners for a night at the movies, complete with popcorn, putting them back in afterward without skipping a straightening beat.
What is the Invisalign Process?
When you come in for your consultation with Dr. Mizrahi, he reviews your teeth and discusses your goals. If you decide that Invisalign is right for you or your child, he uses iTero® to make 3D scans of your teeth, which means no more messy impressions. Dr. Mizrahi sends the information to the Invisalign lab, where they make your custom aligners.
Once you receive your aligners, you should plan on wearing them for 20-22 hours a day, taking them out for cleaning and eating only. You receive new aligners every two weeks, and you visit Dr. Mizrahi every six to eight weeks to make sure your teeth are shifting toward your goals.
Most patients wear the aligners for nine to 15 months for optimal results. Because the aligners are custom-made to your teeth and your desired results, they work quickly, often faster than metal braces. Dr. Mizrahi also offers Propel™, which can move your teeth up to 50% faster by sending micropulses into your teeth every day, which accelerates the movement.
